Hair Trends 2011: Plaits and Braids

The plait obsession continues, from complicated forms at Alexander McQueen to classical at Hermès and Valentino.
The fashion world has fallen in love with the plait all over again, women are so lucky if they have long hair. Tried to do a French plait yesterday and looked very irregular, need a bit of practice. There are so many different ways to wear it! Celebs show us how it’s done for evening wear to the one side. Also there is the messy way with only one or two plaits and the favourite look is a long plait to the side.

All curly hair is different. You could have big curls or tiny spirals. Some curly hair is drier than others. You have to experiment if you want to find the best product for your hair. If one product doesn’t work, find another one. Good shampoo. Shampoo can really dry out your hair because it can strip your hair of it’s natural moisture. Make sure you get one made especially for dry or curly hair. Also, don’t shampoo too often. Once to three times a week is plenty to shampoo. Otherwise, just rinse and scrub your scalp. Now you need to condition your hair once it is clean. Stay away from thin cheap conditioners like Vo5 or Suave. They are very thin and won’t do much for you hair. Use a conditioner that is thick and let it sit on your hair for a least a minute before you rinse it out. Conditioner. This is important to keep your hair as moisturized as possible. Apply more conditioner on the ends and less on the scalp. The ends are older and usually drier which is why they need more moisture. Don’t skip the conditioner! It is the most important step for curly hair. Even a daily conditioner still might not be enough. Use a deep conditioner once a week or once a month. A deep treatment will give you that extra moisture it needs when it it needs it. The next step is styling tools. You need to use styling products to get the best, bouncy curls. If you skip this step, you could end up with a frizzy mess. It doesn’t matter what products you use, but you should start with a leave-in conditioner. This gives you the right amount of moisture throughout the day.

1.Alkali Perm---:

An alkali perm has a high PH level that can damage hair.Do not get this perm if you have color treated or thin hair.It works well with normal hair and hair that has never had a perm. The benefit is the curls last for up to five months. The disadvantage is an alkali perm dries hair out if not moisturized with conditioners for permed hair.It is the best type of perm for all hairstyles and face shapes.

2.Acid Perm---:

An acid perm does not dry out hair as much as an alkali perm.Brittle and colored treated hair works best with this perm. The relaxed effect of the perm creates looser curls that do not hold their shape longer than three months. The gentle curls of an acid perm make a square shape face appears longer when styled with shoulder length hair.

3.Root Perm---:

A root perm only penetrates the hair roots giving a slight curl that lifts the hair. The advantage of a root perm is it works effectively on short or flat hair. The main disadvantage is the perm effect last just two to three months.A root perm adds a carefree and feminine look to medium length and short haircuts.

4.Body Wave---:

A body wave perm adds a slight wave all through the hair.A waves advantage is it adds body to flat hair.Straight hair produces large gentle curls while curly hair will result in tighter ones. The disadvantage is the wave loses its shape after about two months.A body wave softens facial features. It is easy to style with a blow dryer and is perfect for shoulder length haircuts.

5.Volume Perm---:

This type of perm adds volume to hair instead of curls.A volume perm cost less and works well for women experimenting with hairstyles. The disadvantage is it last about six weeks at the most.A volume perm benefits thick long hairstyles and oval face shapes.

●Six Tips for the perfect Perm Hairstyles---:

● What could a perm do for me?

1.Straighten curly hair.
2.Straighten difficult sections of hair like bangs.
3.Spot or weave perm some is permed and some isnt for a natural look.
4.Root perm adds lift to the roots if your hair tends to be flat.
5.Stack perm just the bottom half of the hair is permed.
6.Spiral perm the hair is wound around long rods for a botticelli curl.
7.Body perm done on larger rollers to give volume.

● Is it safe to perm colored hair?

Yes.perms are now available in special formulas for even the lightest shades of tinted or bleached hair. However its always best to ask for a strand test to be done first. The stylist will put a few strands of your hair into perming solution and then neutralizer for up to 15 minutes and then check the condition. This is the best way to make sure that your hair isnt going to fry.To see what condition your hair is in is to put a few strands into a glass of water. If they sink it means that your hair is soaking up water because it is dry from damage. If they float its healthy and in good condition.

● How long does a perm last?

After about 6 to 8 weeks new growth may start to affect how the style looks. If your curls start at your scalp you may need to regularly have a root perm to top up your style.

● How does a perm work and how long does it take?

Perm is short for permanent wave.In the perming process chemicals break the hair down and then re structure it into the desired curls waves or straightness. The hair is washed and then wound around rollers short perming rods or long ones for a look like the pre raphaelite one here. These determine what size curls you finish up with. The smaller they are the tighter your curls.A perming solution is then soaked over the hair raising the cuticle layer and breaking the bonds that give the hair its usual appearance.

● Why is curly hair curly?

Hair is made of protein and in this protein there are sulfur atoms. These are called sulfides. When two sulfur atoms get together they make a disulfide
(di-anything just means two)bond. The more disulfide bonds your hair has normally the more naturally curly it will be.

● Re programming your hair---:

1.Once the perming solution has had time to work it is washed off and the head is then blotted with a dry towel to get rid of excess water.A neutralizer is then applied. This is what re-makes the new disulfide bonds in the hair and gives it a new pattern. It's also the part of the perming process when damage is most likely to occur so it needs to be carefully monitored by the stylist.

2.Once the neutralizer has had time to work its washed off.The rods or rollers are removed and the hair is rinsed again to make sure all the chemicals are gone. The hair is then styled as desired.

● How long before I can shampoo?

Some stylists advise 24 hours others 48 hours and some even say three days. The argument is that youll risk de-activating the perming solution if you get your hair wet.Thats shouldn't be true the waving solution has worked and then been neutralized so it isnt active anymore. The truth is it depends on your hair.Take your stylists advice and be patient if necessary.

● I washed my hair for the first time after a perm and its a puffy mess help.OK.dont panic heres a step by step to glossy healthy curls.

1.Shampoo and condition your hair using specially formulated products for permed hair.
2.Blot and squeeze the water from your hair using a dry towel.Or just wrap your head in a towel but dont ever rub it dry.
3.Spray your hair with a leave in detangling conditioner and then add some anti frizz serum.
4.Comb your hair with your fingers and once it gets easier to run them through start using a wide toothed comb.
5.Apply your usual favorite styling product and tip your head upside down combing the hair to maximize lift.If you dont want your hair too big stay upright.
6.Its best to dry it naturally but if hair drying use a diffuser and a cool setting.
7.Control how much or how little volume you want with tiny mists of scrunching spray With this care your perm should be smooth and just what you wanted.

Perms Hairstyles---:

A perm is a great way for a woman to change her hairstyle. It adds curls or waves to flat or straight hair. The hair gets an application of a chemical solution that breaks down the follicles.Rollers or rods reshape the relaxed hair strands into tight or loose curls to create a new look.Depending on the type of perm the effects can last from six weeks to five months. When selecting a perm type consider the chemical reaction on your hair the best style for your haircut and the shape of your face.

Hair Care Tips....

 .Oily Hair Care Tips....

.Oily Hair Care Tips....

.....Oily Hair Care Tips....

Below you will find some hints and tips to help manage and care for oily hair:

* Use a mild shampoo, shampoo for oily hair, shampoo for dry scalp, or a baby shampoo

* Wash oily hair daily but concentrate the shampoo on the hair away from the scalp to remove the excess oil from the hair not on the scalp itself because this can dry the scalp even more.

* Always rinse your hair thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water because soap residue can make oily hair worse.

* Use a hot oil treatment directly on the scalp itself gently massaging the oil into the scalp and then rinsing the oily hair thoroughly afterward.

* If hair is very oily do not use conditioner at all or use conditioner only on the tips or ends of the hair.

* Oily hair is likely shiny enough so avoid using hair gloss gel or shine hair care products on oily hair.

* Don’t brush oily hair frequently because brushing oily hair can actually cause the scalp to produce more oil.

* Don’t rub or scratch your scalp when you have oily hair because stimulating the scalp like this can produce more oil.

* Diluted lemon juice can provide similar results to the vinegar rinse for oily hair with a much more pleasant scent.

Bob's Hair Cuts

Asymmetrical Bob Hair Cuts

Asymmetrical Bob Hair Cuts

The hair is cut in an asymmetrical pattern, i.e., longer at one side and slightly or considerably short at the other. The length of hair at the back is usually very short; however, you can experiment with it according to your own preference. A perfect asymmetrical bob is a asymmetrical cut with one length around your jaw line and the other nearly touching the shoulder.

Colorful cornrows are a labor-intensive party hairstyle for teens.hairstyles mannequin image by Radu Razvan from Colorful cornrows are a labor-intensive party hairstyle for teens.Teens can push the fashion envelope with funky teen party hairstyles. Adding product to their hair can change it from school day proper to wild night scene in minutes. Color changes, braids and accessories can be used to create styles that will have all eyes on them.

Spiked

Sculpting gel can create funky spiked styles. Layered hair and short pixie cuts benefit the most from the effect of gel, but even long hair can be styled with spikes. Create many small messy ponytails and spike the ends for a funky teen party hairstyle with long hair.Teen boys can fashion their hair into Mohawks or liberty spikes. The effect can be created with strong sculpting gel or even egg whites.

Colored

Temporary hair dye is a way to inject a funky style without changing your overall cut. Dye your whole head a bold blue or pink, change one thin strip or color lots of chunky sections. Drug stores offer do-it-yourself kits in a variety of colors. These temporary dyes last through several shampoos. If you want a less permanent change, try colored hair spray or, for already bleached hair, sugar-free flavored drink mix.Clip-on extensions can be added to your hair for a funky look. Use the colored strands in braids or to wrap around a messy bun.

Braids

Cornrows are difficult to put in yourself, but can create a funky teen party look with the help of a professional or patient friend. Consider braiding in ribbons, colored strands or beads. Boys or girls can wear corn rows.Create a halo effect with two side braids wrapped around your head. Add fake flowers, ribbons, feathers or other accessories for a funky look.
